Council thanked municipal staff, the fire department and the overall community “for their efforts and support for the Ontario Provincial Police Marc Hovingh funeral procession” and its commitment to support the Hovingh family.
Accounts for payment
Council approved the following accounts for payment: general, $117,260.89; and payroll, $41,469.37.
Council authorized the following Christmas bonuses for staff: permanent full-time staff, $200; seasonal and part-time staff, $100, and that, if possible, the municipal office and public works garage be closed between Christmas and New Years.
Council passed resolution 212-18-2020 that, prior to December 31, any departmental surpluses be allocated to the appropriate departmental reserve.
Council approved two lottery licences at its December 1 meeting: Manitowaning Minor Hockey Association for a raffle and the Southeast Manitoulin Lions Club for break-open (Nevada) tickets.
Unopened road allowance
Council informed the agent for the applicant/owner of the lands surveyed under Plan 31R-2197 that they have no objection to stopping up and selling the unopened road allowance at 18261 Highway 6 (Part Lot 5 and Lots 6 and 7 Concession II) as indicated, pursuant to Assiginack’s policy for such conveyances.
Council passed two hiring bylaws: Bylaw 2020-15, to authorize the hiring of an arena lead hand, and Bylaw 2020-16, to authorize the hiring of an economic development officer (EDO). Terry Case of Little Current has been hired as the arena lead hand and Shelba Millette of Tehkummah has been hired as the joint Assiginack-Tehkummah-Killarney EDO.
