KAPUSKASING—Central Manitoulin Public School (CMPS) Grade 7 student Amber Wahl gave it her all at the Royal Canadian Legion Public Speaking Northern semi-finals, but unfortunately lost first place by one point, placing her in second in the Grade 7-9 division recently at the competition held in Kapuskasing.

Previously Ms. Wahl had placed first in the Grade 7-9 division at the Legion Northern Ontario competition in Blind River with her speech on ‘Black Flies,’ in which she spoke about the trouble with black flies and what people do to alleviate them.

“I lost by one point,” Amber told The Expositor. “It was a great experience though and the level of speeches was incredible. All the divisions were really close.”

Amber hasn’t started planning her speech for next year quite yet as she is still presenting this year’s on Tuesday, May 5 for the Tehkummah Women’s Auxiliary at the Tehkummah Community Hall at 7:30 pm.
