Bike Rodeo for Marc
The Marc Hovingh Memorial Youth Bike and Rodeo will be held this September 6th in Mindemoya. The event is free to register and is open to anyone under 18. The omnipotent organizer, Marie Ford needs numbers to tailor the day to whoever is interested. The day will be based at the Freshwater Community Church across from the school. She has planned a barbeque with hamburgers and hot dogs, gift certificate draw prizes, a fun skills course and a group ride. The fun starts at 1PM but Marie needs numbers so please register now! You can call her at 705-348-8472. Thanks to sponsors, OPP Youth Foundation, MICA and the North Channel Bike Park (news coming soon on this exciting, new, Manitoulin destination).
Beating Beaton!
Dane Gibeault, has been recognized for his athletic prowess for years now and paddling is one of his niche skills. He was once again drafted to be the canoeist for the annual, Beaton Classic quadrathlon! Dane’s paddling leg was the bright light on his team, LADS! Racing in the Co-ed, Fours division, Dane posted the second fastest time of just 31 minutes, giving his team a huge advantage. Regrettably, his teammates posted leg rankings of 26, 35 and 20th to place the team in seventh place overall! Dane as usual, took it all in stride and had a great time!
Thunder only happens if you register!
The Mindemoya Thunder Minor Hockey Association has started their registration drive in earnest and is reminding parents of a possible problem. The possibility of your child missing out on being on a team due to the hard cap at 19! Mindemoya, over the years has had the enviable problem of too many players for a team. Perhaps due to its centralized location, plus the parental option of driving their kids from their residential area to Central Manitoulin, it has happened. Notwithstanding all the political arguments on this polarizing issue, you don’t want to take the chance! You can just imagine two ‘besties’ not getting to be on the same team. That would be a hard one to live down! It is first come, first served but the Thunder has made registering as quick and easy as possible with an online form. Gone are the days of holding registration drives at the Fall Fair! Another caveat is that teams require a minimum number of volunteers to form a team however their forms also have a handy spot for you to sign up. You can find their portal by searching Mindemoya Thunder on the Facebook.
MARC helps JH Burt!
The Mindemoya Arena Repair Committee has been working hard to get our communities to put their money where their mouth is to fix the ailing arena. To date, MARC has raised $35,000 toward this critical fund. Their Hillbilly Fish Supper alone raised nearly $5000! Stay tuned for their next event!
