### 1939 – 2026

In loving memory of David Gary Strain, 1939 – 2026\. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of David Gary Strain, who passed away just shy of his 87th birthday. Gary, as he was better known, was the beloved husband of Elva, with whom he shared 60 wonderful years of marriage. Whether raising their family, enjoying life on Manitoulin Island, or simply sharing the everyday moments that matter most, Gary and Elva found their greatest happiness in each other. Their marriage was a true partnership, marked by unwavering commitment and countless memories created over six decades. Gary was the proud and devoted father of David (Kerry-Lyn), Jim (Annette), and Karen (Dana). Gary was a cherished grandfather to Charlotte and Jayden, both of whom he loved dearly and who brought immeasurable pride and joy to his life. He treasured every opportunity to spend time with them, taking a genuine interest in their lives, sharing in their experiences, and celebrating their accomplishments, both big and small. Never one to let a visit end empty-handed, Papa was known for quietly slipping them a little spending money when no one was looking. He delighted in creating special memories for them, from building a bunkie where adventures could unfold to piling up snow hills for winter fun and ice cream treats on the Island. A proud and dedicated grandfather, he could often be found cheering from the stands at their sporting activities, always supportive and always present. The love they shared and the special bond they enjoyed will remain a treasured part of their lives for years to come. In addition to his immediate family, Gary will be lovingly remembered by his many nieces, nephews and cherished friends, who held a special place in his heart. Born in the fall of 1939, Gary was the son of Dave Strain and Dorothy Strain (née Noble), both predeceased. He was also predeceased by his brother, Harold, and is survived by his brother, Bill (Linda). Gary spent his working years in Orangeville, Ontario, where he began his career with American Motors before continuing with Chrysler. He started his employment in 1962 and remained with Chrysler until his retirement in 1994\. Following retirement, Gary and Elva returned to Manitoulin Island, the place he had always considered home. There, he embraced a quieter pace of life and devoted himself to the pursuits he loved most. He eagerly anticipated deer hunting season each year and was an avid fan of hockey and curling. Gary also found great enjoyment in tending his gardens and building outdoor furniture in his garage. He appreciated life’s simple pleasures: a morning coffee, a good cigar and the companionship of dogs. He held a special place in his heart for his beloved Siberian huskies, Klondike and Major. Those who knew Gary will remember his quick wit, warm personality and gift for storytelling. He could strike up a conversation with just about anyone and was known as a thoughtful, generous neighbour and a loyal friend. Gary possessed a deep and unwavering sense of right and wrong and was never afraid to stand by his convictions. He lived his 86 years on his own terms, with strength, humour, loyalty and character. A life well lived. Rest peacefully, Dad. You will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
