ASSIGINACK—The future of the S. S. Norisle is still unknown as the fate of the ship is still tied up in legal proceedings.
“I haven’t heard anything,” S. S. Norisle Steamship Society Chair Dave Ham commented regarding the Society’s lawsuit against the Township of Assiginack.
“The (legal) process is evolving as it should,” added John Coulter, director of restoration for the Society. “The process takes some time. We have no formal court date yet.”
As The Expositor previously reported, the society began legal proceedings earlier this year when it learned of the municipality’s plans to sell the historical ship to the Tobermory Maritime Association (TMA) to be sunk and used as a dive site.
“We have no comment at this time,” Assiginack Town CAO Alton Hobbs told The Expositor regarding the lawsuit.
