“I’m going to Toronto for the Ambassador of the Fairs on (Friday) August 21,” 18-year-old Bridgette told The Expositor. “All the contestants will go through one-on-one interviews as well as presenting themselves on stage and stating who they represent. I will be representing the Providence Bay Agricultural Society.”

Bridgette explained that following the interviews and stage presentation, the top 10 contestants will be selected and be asked to give a one minute and 30 second speech on agriculture. The contestants must also answer impromptu questions and will be judged on their historical knowledge of the CNE.

“I am very excited,” said Bridgette of the upcoming competition. “I have never been to a fair that big before.”

Bridgette said that while she hasn’t competed against the other 77 contestants before, she has gotten to know some of them through an Ontario Fair Queens conference that was held in February and through a Facebook page.

The Gore Bay teen will be heading to Queen’s University this fall to study nursing.

Since its inception in 1971, more than 3,000 youth from 100 communities throughout Ontario have taken part in the CNE Ambassador of the Fairs event. The year-long title takes the winner across Ontario as a representative of the CNE and all agricultural fairs. The winner will also receive $3,500, while the top seven contestants receive cash prizes as well.

The CNE runs from Friday, August 21 to Monday, September 7 in Toronto. For the schedule and advance tickets visit
