Joseph Maxwell excels nationally

QUEBEC—Evansville athlete Joseph Maxwell finished off the season at the Legion National Youth Track and Field Championship in Quebec last week where he not only marked a personal best but brought home gold in the men’s discus throw 1.5 kg.

“I had planned to compete in shot put and discus, but my elbow has been sore since worlds (IAAF World Youth Championships in Colombia),” explained Joseph. “I decided just to compete in discus because I didn’t want to push it.”

Joseph placed first in the men’s discus throw 1.5 kg, with a throw of 56.99 metres, a personal best for the athlete.

“I was really pleased to finish the season this year achieving my personal best in discus by over two metres,” said Joseph. “It was important for me to end the season well.”

The seventeen-year-old athlete has had a busy summer, placing sixth in shot put in the under 18 division at the IAAF World Youth Championships in Colombia.

“I’m looking forward to taking some time off in the next few weeks and spending time with family and friends, dirt bike, hunt and fish,” concluded Joseph.
