Wind Technician – McLean’s Mountain

    Job Description Summary

    The Wind Technician is a critical and active role to maintain optimal function and output at the wind site by working daily on turbine operations including all troubleshooting, repair, & maintenance activities. The wind technician is expected to follow all training procedures & safety policies while maintaining quality control expectations when performing work within the turbines. The successful candidate will partner and communicate with the Site Lead and Manager to execute on contract requirements and timelines and ensures alignment with GE excellence!


    Job Description

    Work with site leadership to execute contractual obligations per customer requirements and activities set forth with on a daily basis, which include any portion of the electrical and mechanical equipment used in the GE wind turbine generator;

    Help in all areas of site operations as directed by manager with minimal supervision;

    Perform, with the highest level of accuracy, digital administrative functions such as writing technical reports, customer-facing reports, expenditure reports, & work procedure reports;

    Understand and execute to complex work packages including engineering & administrative documentation;

    Perform maintenance, repair or replacement of parts to correct malfunctions;

    Troubleshoot complex electrical, mechanical, & hydraulic systems on various turbine components;

    Perform advanced rigging & hoisting / crane operations in & out of wind turbines;

    Work with and respond to GE’s remote operations center when necessary.

    Maintain strong safety mindset to assure the executed work reflects the technical requirements within local safety standards.


    Qualifications / Requirements:

    Technical Certification in Wind Energy or Electrical / Electronic field or other trade;

    Strong understanding of Lock-Out-Tag-Out, testing equipment, & PPE required for working on industrial equipment;

    Pass a Technical Knowledge Assessment delivered in the hiring process;

    Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license & be able to travel to the US;

    Handle repetitive weight < 50 lbs, and climb towers up to 300 feet daily;

    Meet specified manufacturer weight limits not to exceed 300lbs including required climbing safety gear;

    Ability and willingness to work in range of environments to include but not limited to industrial facilities, manufacturing facilities, and power industry facilities;

    Flexibility to work rotating shift schedules, and on-call per site needs;

    Excellent English speaking, reading and writing skills;

    Ability and willingness to take initiative, and work without direct supervision.

    Desired Characteristics:

    Strong understanding of electrical & mechanical schematics drawings.

    Experience using electric & hydraulic power tools;

    + 1 year(s) experience as a Wind Technician or Wind Mechanic OR 2 years of work experience in an industrial establishment in an electrical or mechanical capacity;

    Strong organizational and interpersonal skills;

    Willingness to travel on an irregular basis;

    Ability to work with a wide variety of personnel at all levels inside and outside of the Wind Farm.
