FORT FRANCES—Island curler Jordan Chandler and his rink, Team Manitoulin Transport, have qualified for the Travelers Men’s Provincial (Northern Ontario) Curling Championships Wednesday, February 8 to Sunday, February 12 in Fort William.

The Chandler Rink, which includes Mr. Chandler, Sandy MacEwan, Luc Ouimet and Lee Toner, competed at the Travelers Men’s West Qualifiers January 19 to 22 in Fort Frances to get the ticket to provincials.

Competition at the qualifiers was steep, with the Chandler Rink among five strong teams taking part. The Chandler Rink tied for third and won two tie-breaker games in order to qualify.

“Last year was great and we only lost a handful of games,” Mr. Chandler told The Expositor. “This year has been a different story. Every game and event we have been battling and seem to be doing things the hard way. There is a feeling on our team that this has made us better and we feel really comfortable heading into provincials.”

The Chandler Rink has made it to the provincials the past few years. Last year, they qualified for the semi-finals at provincials defeating the Colin Koivula Rink of Thunder Bay 7-4 and advancing to the finals where they lost against defending Olympic champions the Brad Jacobs Rink.
