Katie Harper to represent Manitoulin Island at Miss North Ontario this week

SUDBURY—This Friday, May 1 at 8 pm, Miss Manitoulin Katie Harper will take to the stage at the Fraser Auditorium to represent Manitoulin Island and compete in the Miss North Ontario 2015 Regional Canadian Pageant.

“I’ve been treating this pageant and its responsibilities like a second job for almost a year now,” said Katie. “Having my dresses, makeup and suitcases packed just adds to the already amazing excitement of representing Manitoulin Island at Miss North Ontario 2015. I’m so thrilled to share our story, histories and tourism with all of Northern Ontario. Also the opportunity to meet such a diverse and well rounded group of young ladies in the North will be spectacular.”

The Grade 11 Sudbury Secondary School (SSS) student calls Little Current home, but lives in Sudbury during the week enabling her to attend SSS arts program.

Since being crowned Miss Manitoulin 2014 last Haweater Weekend, Katie has been busy representing the Island crown and preparing for the Miss North Ontario pageant by fundraising for the pageant’s charity of choice, Northern Ontario Families of Children with Cancer (NOFCC).

“Being Miss Manitoulin has been a really great experience,” shared Katie. “It has given me a real sense of responsibility and commitment.”

Katie will hit the stage along with over 40 other young ladies from across North Ontario, including Brittany Manitowabi of Wikwemikong, this Friday night at 8 pm for the preliminary talent competition in which she will be singing ‘Don’t Rain On My Parade’ from the musical Funny Girl, followed by the final gala competition and awards show Saturday, May 2 (also at the Fraser Auditorium at Laurentian University) at 8 pm. Tickets are available at the door on both nights.
