LITTLE CURRENT—The Little Current United Church Pastoral Charge held a special service this past Sunday honouring St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals. Members of the congregation and community members were invited to bring their pets or a photo of their pet to church and Pastor Paul Allard blessed the animals and handed out treats.

“Our pets are important members of our family,” said Pastor Paul. “In celebration of St. Francis of Assisi today, we invited you to bring your four legged friends with you to church.”

The service was focused on animals, with the church decorated to complement the theme.

The hymns included ‘All Things Bright and Beautiful,’ ‘St. Francis Cared for Animals,’ and a music video of ‘The Rainbow Bridge’ song.

After Pastor Paul blessed the dogs and cat that had accompanied their owners to the service, he said a prayer for pets that had journeyed on.

There was also a prayer for animals and a sermon focused on treating animals with love and kindness.
