Dates and registration for youth sailing lessons now available

MANITOULIN—The Little Current Yacht Club (LCYC) has hired its summer sailing school staff and dates and registration is now available at www.lcyc.ca.

“Carolyn Quinlan has been hired as our lead instructor,” explained LCYC member Tracey Chapman, who took the lead on bringing the summer sailing program back after a one year hiatus. “She is a Grade 11 student from Ottawa. Carolyn brings passion and enthusiasm to the sport of sailing. She has been involved in sailing since she was young and the majority of her sailing has been on the Ottawa River. She has competed in and organized races with CANSail 3 and 4 students at the Ottawa New Edinburgh Sailing Club and last summer completed over 160 hours as a sailing instructor in training. Although Carolyn Quinby has never been to Manitoulin Island before she is eager to start a program in Little Current and is looking forward to a new adventure.”

“Bryce Mastelko, a Grade 10 student at Manitoulin Secondary School, has been hired as our instructor’s assistant,” continued Ms. Chapman. “Bryce is familiar with the LCYC’s sailing program and has been certified for CANSail levels 1-4 through LCYC’s sailing school. In 2013, Bryce spent many hours on the water volunteering and assisting with sailing instruction. He is excited to spend his summer doing what he love to do, sail.”

As The Expositor program previously reported, the LCYC had to cancel the summer sailing program last year due to not having an organizer and because of low registration numbers.

As a mother with two daughters in the program, Ms. Chapman signed on to help bring the program back for Island youth.

Registration has started on the LCYC webpage with a special offer of a five percent discount for LCYC members if they register before June 10. Individuals also receive a $5 discount if they register for two or more courses before June 10.
