COLOMBIA—Evansville shotputter Joseph Maxwell placed sixth at the IAAF World Youth Championships as part of Team Canada in Cali, Colombia last week.
The 17-year-old Evansville resident did well in the qualifying round of his division (under 18) coming in 4th place with a best throw of 19.67.
In the finals, Joseph shot extremely well, with a best throw of 20.29, but it was no match for the USA’s Adrian Piperi, who threw 22.
Silver went to Szymon Mazur of Poland with a throw of 21.77 and bronze to Wictor Petersson Sweden with a throw of 21.56.
Before leaving, Joseph told The Expositor he was “very excited” about competing in his first international event.
