Manitoulin welcomes the first baby of the New Year in February

Proud parents Megan Mejaki and Zack Shawana welcome their son Logan Mejaki, the first baby of the New Year on Manitoulin, last Friday. Big brother Micah Mejaki-Manitowabi also turned four on Friday and was excited to be sharing his birthday with his new little brother.

LITTLE CURRENT—Manitoulin finally welcomed the first baby of the New Year on Saturday at the Manitoulin Health Centre in Little Current.

Logan Mejaki was born on Friday, February 3 at 2:45 pm, weighing 6 pounds, 5 oz and measuring 19 inches long.

“He was due last Sunday,” said Logan’s mom, Megan Mejaki. “He was late, but I started going into labour on Friday about 6 am. It was a surprise to learn that he was the first baby of the New Year, but we were excited.”

Ms. Mejaki and Logan’s dad Zack Shawana are both from Wikwemikong.

Ms. Mejaki’s son Micah Mejaki-Manitowabi also turned four on February 3 and was excited to share his birthday with his new little brother.

“Our family is excited to meet Logan and we will be heading home today,” said Ms. Mejaki on Saturday. “I’m a Haweater, and I’m glad we have another in the family now.”
