MSS Kids in the Halls

Exams for the first semester are officially over! That means students have a few days off before the fun of second semester begins!

In order to give the students a little bit of relaxation before exams, Tuesday, January 21 was pyjama day! Students were able to “de-stress” by wearing comfy pyjamas all day. Therapy dogs were also in the cafeteria at lunch last week to help relieve some stress and put smiles on students’ faces.

On Wednesday, January 22, SHARE/Go Green hosted a bake sale in the cafeteria raising money to assist with battling the fires in Australia. Thank you to everyone who bought a yummy treat in order to support the efforts!

This past week, the MSS guidance counsellors travelled around to the Island elementary schools to talk with Grade 8 students about high school and choosing their classes for next year.

Friday, January 31 is a PD day. All students in the Rainbow District School Board will have the day off. That means an extra day off for high school students and a three-day weekend for elementary students!

The start of the second semester will be on Monday, February 3. There will be no timetable changes allowed for elective courses for the first three days of the second semester. However, changes will be allowed for compulsory courses or failed compulsory courses from the first semester. February 14 will be the last day to make any changes to your second semester courses.

Robotics are in the middle of their build season. Students are working very hard at lunch and after school to get ready for competitions at Georgian College in Barrie on March 6 to 8 and at Nipissing University on March 27 to 29. A robot joke for you:

How do robots eat guacamole? With microchips.

The MSS musical production of ‘Bye Bye Birdie’ is less than a month away. The last few rehearsals for the actors are being scheduled  and the set is being painted this week! Show nights are February 13, 14 and 15. Ticket sale information will be released in the next few weeks.

Joke of the week: I keep hearing music coming from the printer. I think the paper is jamming.

Upcoming events include MSS hockey, the MSS production of ‘Bye Bye Birdie’ and much more!

Until next time, “Dream and Believe. Learn and Achieve!”
