MSS Kids in the Halls

Everyone is back to school after a surprisingly short two-day week last week! Tuesday, February 18 was a snow day and Friday there was no school for students because of the teachers’ job action.

On Thursday, February 20, both the girls and boys hockey teams were in action. The girls played in M’Chigeeng against Notre-Dame. Unfortunately, the girls lost 8-0. The boys played at the NEMI Rec Centre in Little Current against St. Benedict in semi-final No. 2. The boys won 5-4.

Also on Thursday, February 26, MSS hosted the Grade 8 information night for students and parents. Students were given tours of MSS by student volunteers while parents learned about what high school will look like for their child.

The boys’ hockey team were to play St. Benedict again for semi-final No. 3 on Monday, February 24. More news next week.

On Monday, February 24, the junior girls’ volleyball team represented the North Shore and MSS at the Northern Ontario Secondary School Athletic Association (NOSSA) at ESC Algonquin in North Bay. The girls played three other teams in the tournament: É.S. Franco-Cité, Collège Notre-Dame, and Notre-Dame-du-Sault. Results from NOSSA will be reported next week. Great job, girls!

Today, Wednesday, February 26, a bus of students is to head out to Health Sciences North for the Prevent Alcohol and Risk-Related Trauma and Youth (PARTY) Program. This is a great educational trip for students interested in healthcare, law and justice and social work.

Tomorrow, February 27, the vocal group is starting back up after taking some time off over the winter. Any new and returning members are welcome to practice after school on Thursdays. The vocal group will be getting ready for the spring talent show and concert in a few months. See Mr. Theijsmeijer for more information. A music joke for you:

Why did Mozart sell his chickens? Because they kept saying “bach bach!”

Course selections for the 2020-2021 school year are due tomorrow, Thursday, February 27. Make sure all returning students turn in their course selections on MyBlueprint and print off the sign off sheet. Graduating students that are not returning should go on to MyBlueprint and state their plans for the future. See your guidance counselor for more information or if you have any questions.

Joke of the week: What happened to the frog who got a parking ticket? He got toad.

Upcoming events include MSS hockey, course selections due, March Break and much more!

Until next time, “Dream and Believe. Learn and Achieve!”
