I hope everyone has begun to adjust to the time change that happened this past weekend. On the brighter side of things, a little more daylight in the evening isn’t such a bad thing.
On Wednesday, February 26, some MSS students participated in the Technological Skills Competition at Cambrian College. Three MSS students placed in the top three of their categories. In Auto-Service Technology, Karlee Lentir placed first and Chris Gillespie placed second. In Electrical Installations, Taylor Smith placed second overall. Karlee will be competing in the Ontario Provincial Skills Competition in May in Toronto. Congratulations, Mustangs!
From Friday, March 6 to Sunday, March 8, the Manitoulin Metal robotics team competed at Georgian College in Barrie. The team and their robot “L.Y.N” impressed the judges and other teams upon arrival. The team came home with some impressive results from their matches. Great job, Mustangs! The team’s next competition is in North Bay at Nipissing University from March 27 to March 29.
The MSS gymnastics team travelled to the Sudbury Gym Zone on Sunday, March 8 to get some practice in on the spring floors and other gymnastics equipment. Both of the competitions the team had been planning on attending this season have been cancelled.
This Saturday is March 14, and you know what that means! It’s Pi day! Pi day is held on March 14 or 3.14 to celebrate all the circle has to offer. A pie joke for you:
Several experts were all posed the following question: “What is pi ?” The engineer said: “It is approximately 3 and 1/7” The physicist said: “It is 3.14159” The mathematician thought a bit, and replied “It is equal to pi.” A nutritionist: “Pie is a healthy and delicious dessert!”
March Break is from Monday, March 16 to Friday, March 20. Students will be back to school on Monday, March 23.
Badminton season has begun at MSS! Tryouts for the team are taking place in the gym on Mondays and Wednesdays after school. Speak to a gym teacher or Mr. Tallman for more information.
On Saturday, March 28, from 10 am to 2 pm there is going to be a career fair in the main hall at the NEMI Rec Centre. Check it out if you are looking for a job or are interested in learning some new skills. Local representatives from several organizations will be there for you to talk with.
The newly renovated front foyer at MSS has been opened up to students and staff to access. However, construction is still going on in the new student lounge, common room and student success rooms at the front of the school. The main entrance and the stairwell on the east side is still closed off.
Joke of the week: I was walking home late one night when I saw dozens of giant cupcakes and pies everywhere. It was kind of scary. The streets were oddly desserted.
Upcoming events include the March Break, parent-teacher interviews, North Bay robotics competition, and much more! Enjoy your March Break!
Until next time, “Dream and Believe. Learn and Achieve!”
