MSS Kids in the Halls

The countdown is on until the end of school, but there is still a lot to do. Even though course work is finishing up, culminatings and final assignments will be starting soon. There will be no final tests or exams at the end of this semester for any MSS classes.

Can you juggle, sing, dance, play an instrument, read a dramatic monologue, display your TikTok skills, tell a joke, skateboard, complete a handstand or do almost anything else? Students and staff: you are welcome to submit a video of your talent(s) for the Spring (almost Summer) talent show! Please submit your videos to Mr. Theijsmeijer by Monday, June 7 at 4 pm. There is a Google Form in the 2020-2021 Manitoulin S.S. Google Classroom where you can submit the video. Prizes are available! Stay tuned for the release of the MSS virtual talent show video. A talent show joke for you:

Did you hear about the girl who sawed herself in half for the talent show? She placed first and second!

Due to the current learning circumstances, schools in the Rainbow District School Board (RDSB) will not be participating in the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT) or the Grade 9 Mathematics Assessment – Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) – this spring. Graduating students of the 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 school years will be exempt from the OSSLT literacy test as graduation requirement. This requirement will have to be fulfilled for students graduating in the 2022-2023 school year. There will be multiple opportunities to write the Literacy Test for students that will require it to graduate.

There was another photo contest at MSS! Students and staff were able to submit a photo of themselves and their look alike for a prize from the Borderline Board shop. Photos of sibling, celebrity, cartoon character, or other look alikes were sent in for the competition. Voting took place from Wednesday, May 26 to today, Wednesday, June 2 through a Google Form. This means that it is not too late to vote! Feel free to cast your vote for your favourite look alike, Mustangs!

There is one more Professional Development (PD) Day left this school year! Students will have Friday, June 11 off. That might just be a good day to work on a culminating project or two.

Joke of the week: Why can’t you find good photography jokes? Because they have not been developed yet!

Upcoming events include final culminatings and assignments are due, Father’s Day, and the end of the school year.

Until next time, “Dream and Believe. Learn and Achieve!”
