MSS Kids in the Halls

It’s the first day of the last month of 2021! Time has really flown by! There are 13 school days including today left until the Christmas break.

A joke to begin the holiday season for you:

How did the salt and pepper welcome all the guests?

By saying, “Seasoning’s greetings!”

Last Wednesday, November 24, a handful of staff and students stayed after school to turn the front foyer and hallways heading towards the cafeteria and office into a life size gingerbread house. This was a surprise for students and our wonderful secretary, Ms. Scott the next morning. It looks amazing, and it is loved by everyone!

The 12 Days of Christmas begins at MSS tomorrow, Thursday, December 2. For those that haven’t heard of the annual event hosted by student council and other committees and clubs at the school, it consists of different events every day for 12 school days leading up to Christmas Break. The first day is kicked off with the classroom door decorating competition. Teachers along with their students will have the opportunity to decorate their door with a festive theme for a chance to win a class prize. This event runs until Wednesday, December 15. The doors will be judged on Thursday, December 16. The second day of events on Friday, December 3 is a red and green spirit wear day which includes a hot chocolate bar in the cafeteria during both junior and senior lunch. What a perfect way to celebrate a Friday! Monday, December 6 is the beginning of the cheesy Christmas card photo contest. Students will be able to submit their cheesiest Christmas card photo with friends and/or family members through a Google Form for a chance to win a prize. Tuesday, December 7 is karaoke in the cafeteria put on by Mr. Theisjmeijer and next Wednesday, December 8 is Christmas-themed bingo during both lunch periods. More information on the following events will be included in next week’s column. Don’t forget to participate and have fun, Mustangs!

It’s been a while since students were performing on the stage at MSS, but the time has come for the return of dancing and singing. Tomorrow, Thursday, December 2 auditions will be held for a musical. The curtain is expected to rise for this show in mid-January. Auditions will be held after school from 3 pm to 4:30 pm; you will need to speak to a teacher to sign up for an audition spot. This musical will be live-streamed and will only be about 10 minutes long. But if all goes well, there will also be another, longer, production done in second semester.

Lots of sports have had their first practices after school within the last week or two. Both boys’ junior and senior basketball practices have begun; junior and senior girls’ volleyball is up and running; and finally the gymnastic team meets twice a week on Monday and Fridays. All students are welcome to join gymnastics practice after school if they would like to be a recreational participant.

Joke of the week: Sister: What are you getting Mom and Dad for Christmas?

Brother: A list of everything I want!

Upcoming events include the 12 days of Christmas and the Christmas break.

Until next time, dream and believe. Learn and achieve!
