MANITOULIN—Tryouts have now taken place for the boys and girls Manitoulin Secondary School Mustang hockey teams and the season is quickly approaching.
Mustangs girls’ manager Lisa Addison said 23 girls tried out for the team this year, a record number.
“There are many talented players and it was a tough decision,” said Ms. Addison. “Thank you to all that have tried out. We are looking forward to a great season of hockey.”
The team includes: Brooke Addison, Tess Bellmore, Sophie Bondi, Gabby Corbiere, Savanna Corbiere, Alayna Cranston, Maggie Eadie, Ashlyn Hare, Harmony Kaiser-Fox, Randi-Lyn Lovelace, Maddy Nevin, Mickie Noble, Hailey Prior-McGillis, Lyric Peltier, Avery Sheppard, Faith Taylor, Beth Wesno, Hannah Woestenek and Bailey Yaschuck-Middaugh.
Other members of the coaching staff include Coach Mike Meeker and Assistant Manager Ina Wesno.
The Mustang girls have their first home game on Thursday, November 9 at the M’Chigeeng arena at 5 pm against L’Horizon.
The roster for the boys’ team isn’t finalized as Coach Steve Doane said he is still looking at adding players.
Practices have begun, but 10 of the players are also on the volleyball team and the exhibition hockey games conflict with volleyball events so the team will be opting out of the exhibition schedule.
The team is to be finalized this week with their first game taking place at the Northeast Town Recreation Centre on Thursday, November 9 at 4 pm against St. Charles.
