MANITOWANING—The Township of Assiginack celebrated the grand reopening of the recently renovated and expanded Assiginack Public Library last week with a ribbon cutting, cake, lemonade and tours.
“Thank you for coming on behalf of the library board and the volunteers,” said Assiginack Mayor Paul Moffatt. “I would like to welcome you all to the grand reopening. I would also like to recognize the hard work of the contractor Barry Foisy (of Windows Unlimited) who did all the construction work on both buildings (the library and new municipal office). It was a long process and it is wonderful to see it come to fruition.”
“I wish to thank former and current library board members for their insight and for their advocacy of this additional space,” said Assiginack Public Librarian Debbie Robinson. “I want to thank those who so graciously assisted in moving various parts of the library collection into the new space—you are wonderful.”
“I wish to also thank our community for their loyal and dedicated patronage—it is a joy to serve you and we are delighted to say that you now have more elbow-room to access and enjoy our library services.”
Ms. Robinson went on to thank Mr. Foisy, “who worked tirelessly to renovate and refit our new space—especially for all the extra things you did to make our transition go more smoothly, from hanging bulletin boards and clocks to installing a television monitor and assembling a white board—it’s all greatly appreciated.”
Last year, Mr. Foisy began renovations on behalf of the town on the former Wally Harasym Insurance building, transforming the building over several months into the new municipal office. This spring Mr. Foisy renovated the former municipal office/library, expanding the library into the former municipal office area.
The renovations included turning the former council chambers into a meeting room, tearing down walls, painting and installing new flooring.
This summer the Assiginack Public Library is open Tuesdays from 10 am to 4 pm and 7 to 8 pm, Wednesdays from 10 am to 4 pm, Thursdays from 10 am to 4 pm and 7 pm to 8:30 pm, Fridays from 10 am to 4 pm and Saturdays from 11 am to 3:30 pm. For more information call 705-859-2110.
