LITTLE CURRENT— Skate Canada Manitoulin will be hosting a wine tasting evening in Little Current at the Rendezvous Pavilion on Friday, August 14 at 7 pm.
“We have held other wine tasting evenings in the past which have gone over really well,” explained Skate Canada Manitoulin coach and one of the evening’s organizers Abbie Drolet. “We thought we would bring it back this year. It’s always a lot of fun and a great way to fundraise for our CanSkate program. Our CanSkate program will actually be expanding this year to Gore Bay and Mindemoya (in addition to its current offering in Little Current and Manitowaning).”
The evening will feature over 30 wines, beers and spirits, in addition to hors d’oeurves and treats. There will also be non-alcoholic beverages available.
“We are planning on the event being very casual,” said Ms. Drolet. “Guests will be able to try a selection of wines themselves and sample the hors d’oeurves. In the past we have had it more structured, but we wanted it to be more ‘Island’ this year.”
As guests sample the selection of wine and treats, they can peruse the silent auction and wine pull.
“With the wine pull, individuals buy a ticket and pick out a bottle of wrapped wine,” Ms. Drolet said. “The fun is that you could pull a $10 dollar bottle of wine or a $60 bottle of wine. It’s kind of like a lottery.”
The funds raised from the event will help subsidize ice time and pay for equipment for the Skate Canada Manitoulin CanSkate program.
Registration for all of Skate Canada Manitoulin’s programs will start at the end of this month online. In person registration dates and locations are still to come (keep an eye out for upcoming ads in The Expositor).
Tickets for the wine tasting event on August 14 at 7 pm are $40 (including beverages and treats) are available at Cambrian College in Little Current and Cambrian Insurance in Little Current or online at www.scmanitoulin.com.
