UCCM Police investigating alleged abuse at AOK daycare

AUDECK OMNI KANING—The Aundeck Omni Kaning (AOK) First Nation Negaa’abik Daycare is under investigation after an assault claim was made to the UCCM Anishnaabe Police Service.

“There was a report made on April 10,” UCCM Sergeant Brad Mack told The Expositor on Friday. “The report has resulted in an ongoing assault investigation at this location (the AOK daycare). The UCCM Police are working with Kina Gbezgomi at this time. We are still in the early stages of this investigation.”

Sergeant Mack said he was unable to comment regarding any further details of the investigation, but did state that “a number of people are being interviewed” and “no charges have been laid.”

The daycare does remain open.

The Expositor contacted the Ministry of Education (MOE), which oversees registered daycares, however the ministry was unable to comment as of press time on Monday as to its involvement in the matter.
