Congratulations to The Expositor and their sponsors

Kudos for the success of the first Manitoulin Expositor Salmon Classic

To the Expositor:

I would like to congratulate The Expositor and their sponsors for the success of the first annual Salmon Classic, all the people who bought tickets and who participated in the derby.

I have heard that the 2017 derby is going to be bigger and better, which is good, but maybe the derby should be centered out of South Baymouth. We have proven “before” and “now” we will always be the Fishing Capital of Manitoulin. After all, the largest salmon and largest trout were caught here.

My reasons to have all the festivities here are: South Baymouth has a large covered pavilion at John Budd Park with picnic tables, a large staging area, real toilets with showers…not a plastic port-a-pottie.

The Tehkummah Fire Department would gladly host a fish fry which is second to none.

South Baymouth has three restaurants, a takeout pizza and sub shop, coffee and snack shops and ice cream parlours.

We also have a full service fuel station which has all grades of fuel plus diesel. Carl’s Trading Post also carries groceries, ice and stocks a large amount of salmon and trout. It is also open to 10 pm for the late weigh in.

Another reason to have South Baymouth to host the derby is our marina also has room for over 100 boats and has also brick washrooms and showers.

South Baymouth has two motels, a bed and breakfast and countless tourist camps with the area.

We have full flow of the ferry traffic, we could place large banners and billboards at the beginning to advertise to all travellers.

In closing, our town should be seriously considered as being the only logical place to hold all the festivities. Now it is up to Tehkummah council to pursue this idea with Mr. Patterson and The Expositor .

P.S We could even hold seminars on fishing for the “Wannabe Charter Captains” who  can’t catch fish.
