The Liberal Party of Canada is poised, and almost certain, to have won enough seats to secure a razor-thin Parliamentary majority.
Even political neophytes realize that a Liberal majority government in Canada will have important impacts on the exercise of power in the House but the perhaps even more significant impact is how it can change parliamentary committees by shifting the balance of power from the opposition to the governing party, allowing for greater control over legislative agendas and investigations.
In a majority scenario, the Liberals hold more than half the seats on every standing committee, eliminating the need to negotiate with opposition parties to pass legislation through the committee stage.
