John Kenneth Wassengeso (George) “Slab”/”Kenny Boy”, a resident of Wikwemikong, passed away peacefully at Health Sciences North in Sudbury, on Friday, August 12, 2016 at the age of 59. Son of the late Margaret George (nee Manitowabi) and of the late Bon George. Beloved husband of Winnifred Peltier. Loved father of Ursula (Neil) Bondy of Wikwemikong, Blair (Sunny) Wassengeso of Minnesota, Loved stepfather of Jason (Daphne) Peltier, Amy (Trevor) Assinewai, Julian (Gertie) of Wikwemikong, Brent (Tamey) of Spring Bay and Jacqueline Trudeau of Sudbury. Kenneth is survived by 15 grandchildren and seven godchildren. Also survived by his siblings, Joanna (Mark) Manitowabi of Manitowaning. Bill (Larry) of Toronto, Sheila (Don) Nabigon of Pic River, Donna (Ken) Pangowish, Yolanda (Tony) and Peter (Kelly) all of Wikwemikong. Predeceased by son Alex, daughter Tammy and two grandchildren. Also predeceased by siblings Beatrice, Agnes, Tammy, Danny, Randy, Peggy and Bonita. Survived by his in-laws May, Ronnie (Junie), George (Marion), Barbara, Sandra, Joanna (Chris), Jennifer, Norma and Natalie (Eugene). Predeceased by his sister-in-law Quay. Kenneth worked at Andy’s Shell as a heavy equipment operator for 34 years. He was an outdoors man and loved to fish and hunt. He spent a lot of time with family/friends annually at the Sugar Camp and is the home of the Annual ATV Mud Run, was part of the Wiky ATV Mudders Club. He enjoyed playing sports for the Cape Smith Hay Stacks, Wiky Blues, and Murray Hill Slabs. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and relaxing at camp. Family and friends gathered at the Rabbit Island Community Centre on Sunday, August 14, 2016 at 1 pm. Funeral Services were at the Holy Cross Mission Church in Wikwemikong on Tuesday, August 17, 2016 at 3 pm. Burial in the Wikwemikong Upper Cemetery. Record your thoughts, memories and photos at
