MANITOULIN—The Little Current Public School (LCPS) Coyotes are the 2026 winners of the annual Manitoulin Island elementary school flag football tournament.
The tournament was held in Manitowaning and hosted by Assiginack Public School (APS) on October 27. “The flag football tournament at APS was a huge success,” said tournament organizer and APS teacher Margit Alberti. “There were eight teams from across the Island, although we were sad to miss Gore Bay (Charles C. McLean Public School) this season. The coaches and referees were focused on the students and strove to ensure they had a fair and fun day.”
“Best of all, the students were a pleasure to work with,” said Ms. Alberti. “All day long we were treated to amazing athleticism and, more importantly, inspiring sportsmanship. Way to go, Manitoulin Intermediates!”
Ms. Alberti explained, “The teams were very close, with excellent play from all the schools. We couldn’t determine the number one team in either division until the final games. When they played each other, it was a team from Little Current Public School taking home the golden football. Congratulations, Little Current!”
The LCPS first place team included Brenna Pollard, Alivia Callaghan, Mason Dedman, Jack Bentley, Ollie Wilding, Alex Bond, Brooke Varey, Emma Souliere, coach Melanie Pollard.
