Islanders’ kindness is a recurring theme

To the Expositor:

Our Honeymoon Journey Manitoulin Island

This event took three decades to unfold. We finally married May 23, 2026 at Wesley Knox United Church in London, Ontario.

Kindness as shown toward us by everyone we encountered on our honeymoon journey to Manitoulin Island.

Kindness was shown to us by the MS Chi-Cheemaun ferry staff that made sure we had a boarding spot even though we had missed the one-hour advance arrival time.

Kindness was shown to us whilst we were selecting our meal choices on the Chi-Cheemaun by a gentleman from the Owen Sound area who overheard Norma and I talking about our special journey and paid for our meals. He said it was a wedding gift!

Kindness was shown to us at the Anchor Inn by staff when Norma and Norma’s son Paul and I enjoyed a grand dinner in a pleasant atmosphere.

Kindness was shown to us at the retirement home in Gore Bay by staff when we visited Dorothy who we had rented a cottage on Ice Lake many years.

Kindness was shown to us by the lovely lady at Lillian’s Indian Crafts at M’Chigeeng. Good memory.

Kindness was shown toward us at the South Baymouth ferry terminal by Heather, a recently retired schoolteacher on the Island who coordinated getting a boost for our truck by ferry staff and making sure that a booster would be available when we disembarked at Tobermory. Heather knows everyone on the Island after a 30-year career. Thank you, Heather.

Thank you everyone,

Norma Jean Kelly
