MINDEMOYA—After months of practice on the golf course the Manitoulin Special Olympics (MSO) golf team finally had a chance to show their swings in one final blowout of the year at the Brookwood Brae golf course on September 8.
The team was unable to play in a full tournament this year due to weather, but coach Cecilia Sloan and Janet Anning helped to organize this last four hole mini-tournament for the seven golfers and seven coaches to both celebrate a good year of hard work and saying goodbye.
As well as being a blowout for the golfers, this was also a chance for the golfers to say their goodbye’s and thanks to Cecelia Sloan, who after seven years of coaching has decided to retire; or as Ms. Anning put it, “it’s time for her to stop teaching us, and start teaching her grandchildren.”
The event also involved a dinner and a farewell bade by all of the MSO golfers including Bruce Vanhorn, David Gagne, Daniel Kilgour, Arthur Haines, Dayne Tipper, Tyler Madahbee, Jamie Pyette.
Of course although this was done as a fun end of the year event, it is possible it may not be the last as everyone had a lot of fun. “Doing this made me realize that we need to do more of these, because they’re so much fun,” added Ms. Anning.
