KAGAWONG—Maintaining an outdoor skating rink began several years ago for David Carr, when he made one for the neighbourhood kids while living in Burlington and raising his own kids. His degree in physical education also comes in handy.

“I have found, over the years, that if you volunteer and help the community, and others do the same, you have a very healthy, active community,” stated Wendy Van Every, a Meldrum Bay resident.
KAGAWONG—This winter marks the fourth year that Phil Smyth has been on the maintenance crew for the outdoor rink in Kagawong. It all began when he contacted Andrew Preyde expressing an interest in helping out.
