Trying to live on ODSP is difficult in rural areas

Leaders are too quick to judge those they do not understand

To the Expositor:

Citizens are having a hard time since this coronavirus started. These leaders are trying to find solutions to the problems we are having because of this pandemic. Their number one priority should be equality for everybody, especially when it comes to people living on ODSP (Ontario Disability Support Program). This income has not increased for the last 30 years and that is a long time.

I was listening to Premier Doug Ford speaking on this issue, why ODSP recipients are not getting too much help, and his excuse was because some of these people can still work, but not everybody is in the same situation. That is a misconception, what he said. When you are living in a rural area, it is more expensive because every geographical area is different. It can be very expensive, or it can be a little cheaper, but unfortunately my area is kind of expensive to live. These leaders have no knowledge of that when they are making decisions about finances. They are too quick to judge. It may cost too much money to do the right thing, I know we will be dealing with this coronavirus right into next year. With this second wave, the question is how bad is it going to be for me? I would rather not say anything, I will just keep it myself.
