(with reference to Isaiah 9)
“Unto us a child is born,”
Or will be born quite soon.
Our homes let us adorn,
And not be too forlorn,
But hum a joyful tune.
“To us is given a son,”
A gift to just receive,
Not deserved or won.
So there the shepherds run,
And risk their sheep to leave.
“His name shall be called”
Many things, good and bad.
As king he’d be installed,
Before Pilate be hauled,
And leave his mother sad.
“There shall be endless peace,”
Hostility despite.
Even wars will cease,
On life there’s a new lease!
Not only on that night.
