GORE BAY—The Espanola team of Blake Roque and Mike Dubreuil were the first event winners of the 28th annual curffle bonspiel held this past weekend at the Gore Bay Curling Club.

The Roque-Dubreuil team won the first event over the team of Sherri Forest and Heather Hall in the first event final game.

“I would like to thank Bill and Peg (Clark) for holding this annual event,” said Mr. Roque.

A total of 48 two-person teams took part in this year’s curffle event.

At the awards presentation Sunday evening Mr. Clark encouraged all participants, “to turn to your left and your right and shake the hand of the person beside you, because it is you that make curffle what it is.”

“We would like to thank the Gore Bay Curling Club for putting this event on for the past 28 years,” said Mr. Clark.

Mr. Clark praised the kitchen staff, bartender Dan Marois, all the ice makers, Jill Patterson for years of providing homemade wine that is used for prizes. “And we would like to congratulate the winners of the first event, Blake and Mike,” said Mr. Clark.

In the second event Steve Head and Sue Whynott took first place with the runners up being Jeff Riching and Marc Addison.

In the third event the team of Jamie Campbell and Dan Forrest were the final game winners, with Art and Cindy Madore the runners-up.

Mr. Campbell said, “everything was great, it was a great weekend.”

Mr. Madore said, “thanks to Bill and Peg for doing a fabulous job and for keeping the event going every year, and to all those who help out in the kitchen, bar and the ice.”

“I have nothing else to say except to thank everyone for being here, and we hope all of you will be back again next year,” said Mr. Clark.

Peg Clark praised, “the kitchen staff who did an awesome job, the ice makers, and Dan Marois—I don’t know what we would do without you.”
