GORE BAY—A total of 29 teams took part in the annual Royal Canadian Legion Branch 514 Gore Bay golf tournament, held at the Manitoulin Island Country Club (MICC) this past Saturday.
The 29 two-member teams took part in the nine hole best ball format event. In the men’s division there was a tie for first place. Tom Foster and Kurtis Noble, and the team of Bob Foster and Kyle Noble, both posted two under par scores of 34. A putt-off was held between a player from each team, with Tom Foster and Kurtis Noble team winning. In the mixed division the team of Arron Assinewai and Amy Debassige posted a very impressive four under par score of 32 to take first place. The ladies division saw Mary-Lea Buchan and Deborah Woods taking first place with a score of 38.
Prizes were also handed out for the closest to the pin with the male winner being Keith Rogerson on the fourth hole, and Sadie Harrison on the second hole.
The longest drive for the men’s division was won by Jordan Chandler on the seventh hole, while for the ladies’ division it was Paulie Nodecker on the sixth hole.
“We would like to thank everyone for coming out to take part in our annual golf tournament,” said Merle Idle, master of ceremonies for the awards ceremony, held on Saturday evening at the legion. “Thank you to everyone who provided prizes, you were very generous and to Dan Marois for doing all the score tabulating, Leo Orford for collecting most of the prizes, and to Bill and Peg Clark for being at the fourth hole (for the hole in one prize).”
