Whether it’s classroom wins, club highlights, or action on the courts and fields, this week brings plenty to talk about.

Starting us off this past Monday, nervous jitters and bathroom mirror checks were in full swing as students lined up for picture retake day. I was mid-sneeze when the camera flashed so waiting to see my photo is torture, but we all tried our best to pose and hope for the best.

Speaking of swinging, gymnastics practice has taken place after school until five. If you have spare time, maybe give it a go? Every Monday and Friday, the gymnastics team gets together and has some fun, and beginners are totally welcome no matter your age or skill level.

Tuesday may have been the busiest but definitely not the most boring day of last week.

Grade 11s and 12s went to the applying for college session which was packed with information and, luckily enough, if you do end up applying now you can get early acceptance to wherever you are applying!

Meanwhile, Manitoulin Metal had its regular practice from three to five pm and even hosted FLL Lego community robotics! But if you have no idea what FLL robotics is, don’t worry that’s what I am here for. Basically, high school students on the Robotics competition team help mentor students from the ages of five to 13. Our robotics team teaches kids design, innovation, teamwork and coding, hoping to spark a love for coding from even a young age. On Saturday, December 6 at MSS from 11 am to 2 pm, the public can come check out the FLL team’s festival where they will demonstrate their robots and present about their process. There will also be hand-on activities for families.

Girls’ junior and senior volleyball teams are working hard to get season-ready with their first tournaments just around the corner. The senior girls even travelled to L’Horizon for an invitational tournament. The boys’ basketball teams are also developing their skills and teamwork with their season starting soon.

Also on Thursday, our Comm Tech Grade 10, 11 and 12 students participated in the creative challenge hosted by Sudbury’s Cambrian College. One of our students who worked hard in the graphic design program, Evalana Mainprize, won a $500 entrance scholarship to Cambrian during the event. While they were away, MSS was seeing double, with many pairs dressed for Twin Day.

Great job, Mustangs! An awesome week all around. Au revoir!
