Committee hopeful for upgraded Kagawong Mariner’s Park

KAGAWONG—The Billings Museum Committee is bringing a proposal forward that would see the Mariner’s Park in Kagawong added to and upgraded.

“This is a vision the committee has had for a number of years,” stated Rick Nelson, a member of the committee and curator of the Old Mill Heritage Centre Museum in Billings. “The committee wants to further develop the Mariner’s Park waterfront area,” said Mr. Nelson. “Development of the waterfront and Mariner’s Park started years ago, and through a bit of a facelift the committee would like to finish the work.”

“The committee wants to add to it and to develop it into a more accessible place,” said Mr. Nelson. “This would include shelters and park benches being installed and historical plaques put up.”

Mr. Nelson explained, “all the outside artifacts we have at the park need to be presented in a better way, so shelters would be constructed and some landscaping would take place to make the park more presentable.”

“Obviously, what we are looking at will not be inexpensive, and we also need to have a better conceptual design of the additions done before the project goes to tender. All of this is dependent on (Billings) council approval, and we would need to find funding for the project.”

The committee will be making a presentation to council in the next month or so, added Mr. Nelson.
