All on the line for Mustangs tomorrow!

The Manitoulin Mustangs’ season will be decided tomorrow night in Sudbury as they play the Notre Dame Alouettes to decide who goes to the SDSSA championship title! The Mustangs defeated Notre Dame on the road 6-3 last week and were looking forward to wrapping up the three-game, semi-final series this past Friday at the NEMI Rec Centre. In front of a huge partisan crowd, the ‘black and gold’ skated hard but played catch-up all game as the Alouettes stayed just ahead keeping the fans nervously quiet. The Mustangs kept the crowd on the edge of their seats however with many flashy flourishes and spectacular hits. A few players of note that really played with a great sense of urgency with and without the puck were Braeden Case, Jacob Moreau and Cole Lentir. The game was very close coming down to the wire in the third, just down by a pair in the last couple of minutes. With goaltender Jordan Cristo, who held them in all game, sitting on the bench the guys had amazing chances but just could not convert and in the end the Alouettes popped in an empty netter to seal game three: 5-2.

The team is on the road to the ‘big smoke’ tomorrow for a 6:30 tilt at the Countryside Arena. Good luck, Mustangs! It is a big space to fill up any Manitoulin voices up for a road-trip?!

New fitness club!

There is a great new fitness opportunity for people in Manitoulin’s north-east. The ‘Beachin with Becky’ fit club takes place every Wednesday at the Sheguiandah Seniors Hall from 7-8. Organizers are the mother and daughter team of Becky and Judy Ferguson. The pair would like to point out that they are not certified instructors but more like fitness facilitators who want to get a bunch of like-minded people out so that everyone can help encourage each other to become more active. For just three dollars a session (to help pay for the hall rental) the team will put any additional money into purchasing workout programs that will be placed into their own lending library. People can borrow them a week at a time to try out various programs available.

Coach Becky says that the fit club is really aimed at anybody as they their workouts can be modified for anybody’s fitness level, the goal is just the get sweating and have fun with like-minded people. Another bonus is that there is very little equipment needed and anybody can get in on the activity. The most you will ever be asked to bring is a yoga mat and some water. Right now they are doing Turbo Jam which is a mixture of dance, kickboxing and body sculpting moves. Starting next week they are going to incorporate a bit of fast moving yoga. It really is group based, so where they go next will depends on what the group wants.

If you would like more information on Beachin with Becky FitGroup or just want to chat, she invites you to find her on Facebook. Her page is called “Beachin with Becky.” She can also be reached via email at or text her at 705-869-7777.
