Ivan Michael Eshkawkogan (Ozawanimiki), 77 years of age, passed away August 3, 2016. Beloved husband of Jeanette Eshkawkogan (Desmoulin) of Wikwemikong. Loving father of Lorne (predeceased) (Linda), Boniface (Mary Ann), Jay, Darren, Cecil (Arnelda), Steven, Eugene (Natalie), all of Wikwemikong. Dear grandfather of 28 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Dear son of Raymond and Gertrude (Trudeau) Eshkawkogan (both predeceased). Dear brother of Rita Francis (Ken) (both predeceased), Clement (predeceased) wife Dorothy, Marguerite Shawanda (Nicholas) (both predeceased), Joyce Madahbee of Aundeck Omni Kaning, Celina McGregor-Walker (predeceased) (Leonard) of Birch Island, and Allan (Darlene predeceased) of Wikwemikong. Dear uncle of many nieces and nephews. Proud godfather of Jenny McGraw, Gertrude Eshkawkogan, Marlene Pangowish, Rick Francis (predeceased), Mark Shawanda, Debbie Menard and other godchildren the family may have missed. Dear brother-in-law of Charlotte, Lillian (predeceased), Leona (predeceased), Jerome (predeceased) and Archie Desmoulin. Ivan took great pride in his community as acting chief, member of Chief and Council, Housing Coordinator, Housing Inspector, and Housing Instructor for many years. He attended residential school in Spanish and continued to enjoy using his Anishnaabemowin when it came to translating the scripture readings for Mass and teaching his family. He was a big supporter and fan to all of his sons’ hockey. He enjoyed fishing, playing horseshoes and poker with his sons, nieces and nephews. His favourite pastime was bingo and Nevadas. He will be missed by numerous family members and friends who knew him as “Sponsor” and “Zebrick”. Rested at the Holy Cross Mission Church beginning Saturday, August 6, 2016 at noon.
