Jake’s Home Centre in Mindemoya is facing a long cleanup after extensive flooding. Owner Adam Smith says the showroom was damaged and three feet of water remains in the basement. Despite insurance hurdles and timing during their busy season, local support has been strong as recovery begins.
MINDEMOYA—While the cleanup has begun for a Mindemoya business, it will be weeks or months before Jake’s Home Centre will be up and operating as it normally does.
“The clean up has begun,” stated Adam Smith of Jake’s. “We are getting there. For us, I’m not a complainer but to have all this (extensive flooding) happen at this time of the year is a big kick in the behind when we are coming off the slow season and ramping up for what is normally the busiest time of the year for the business, May-October.”
Mr. Smith said the cleanup of his business has started. “I give it to the cleanup crew, they were here last Friday and again this week, first taking the showroom carpet out, and have cut up the drywall,” he said, noting there are three other locations including storage locations that have to be cleaned up.
