A poem for all who love the Island
A mist hangs over the Island,
A mist of some surprise,
A mist that lets in sunshine,
When pandemic blocks sunrise,
A cold becomes a fever,
A cough spreads instant fear,
Our loved ones become distant,
And help is not so clear.
Have we become complacent
To life’s frail twists and turns?
Our friends of summer greet-
ings,
Become carriers of our urns?
The Island of our Creator,
With creatures great and small,
He asks us who reside here
Both in summer and in fall,
To respect this pandemic
With caution and with care,
Enjoy Manitoulin and respect
it,
For future years to share.
