Manitoulin Community Living hosts five teams at curling tournament

LITTLE CURRENT—Manitoulin Special Olympics athletes have always done the Island proud. This past weekend Manitoulin Community Living hosted a curling tournament that attracted teams from Sault Ste. Marie and North Bay.

The daylong tournament was filled with plenty of laughter, good sportsmanship and quite a bit of skill, as the athletes swept their rocks into the house.

In the second division, both the North Bay and Manitoulin teams scored games and wound up tied for first place.

It was a similar situation in the first division.

“Everyone had a great time,” said coach Helen Holroyd. “That’s really what this is all about.”

The teams played six-end games (with a 1.5-hour limit), breaking for lunch and enjoying a supper after the games were done.

Included in the day’s events were several skills competitions that tested individual mettle but was all in good fun.

“Everyone is a winner,” asserted Ms. Holroyd.
