Manitoulin Secondary School Mustangs tennis team wins North Shore Secondary School Association championships in M’Chigeeng

M’CHIGEENG—The Manitoulin Secondary School (MSS) Mustangs tennis team won the North Shore Secondary School Association tennis championship!

“The MSS Mustangs tennis team hit the courts in M’Chigeeng on May 15 to compete in the North Shore championships,” said MSS coach Chris Theijsmeijer. “After a long day of ups and downs, and many close tie-breaks, they emerged victorious to claim the NSSSA title again.”

Mr. Theijsmeijer explained only the top team in each division gets to continue on to the Northern Ontario championship this week. “MSS will be represented by Ava Corbiere in girls’ singles, Aspen Debassige and Emery Watson in girls’ doubles and either Zee Toulouse and Jaron Panamick or Rylan and Grace Pennie in mixed doubles. These two teams will have to faceoff after the long weekend to finish their championship match after running out of time on May 15.”

Second place finishes were also achieved by Anders Watson and Jonah Balfe in boys’ doubles, in a double tie-break, Addy Gray and Amy Smith placed second in girls’ doubles, said Mr. Theijsmeijer. He added, “With MSS finishing with six of the top 10 final spots, they easily won the team banner. Way to go, Mustangs!”
