The Island has lost a real treasure

To the Expositor:

About Dr. Ken Tipper,

He was one of a kind; just about the most patient and caring people you’d ever find. We had quite an assortment of animals here and he never seemed to get annoyed when he was called for a sick deer instead of a cow or horse.

People used to bring us orphaned and injured birds and animals, Ken always dis his best to look after them. At one time, someone brought us a red tailed hawk caught in a trap. It had a mangled wing. Ken amputated the wing and we had the bird in a big outside cage for nearly eight years.

One time when he was here, he and Mel got to talking about someone who’d just died and they both said they wanted to be cremated with no funeral to do. Ken said, “You know Marian says she’s got it all fixed so we both go to heaven and I’ve already told her, if I get there and there aren’t any cows or horses, I’m not staying.”

He was probably the busiest, hard working person on this Island. Still he always seemed to have time to be on committees, talk to people, and lend a helping hand whenever and wherever it was needed.

This Island lost a real treasure when Ken died. If there were more people like him, this world would be a far better place to live in.

I’ll bet they ordered up cows and horses in heaven so he’d stay.
