GORE BAY—The Mindemoya Brewers are the 2016 Manitoulin Men’s Fastball champions, marking the first time in 29 years since a Mindemoya team has won the Island crown, having done so previously in 1987.

The Brewers defeated the Gore Bay Merchants in the third and deciding game in the  best three out of five final series by an 8-0 score this past Tuesday evening in Gore Bay.

“I would like to thank all six teams who participated in the league this year,” stated Delroy Prescott, league convenor, prior to the presentation of the championship plaque by former league president Ben Wilson to the Mindemoya team.

“We had a solid league, with good parity and we appreciate all the fans who supported the league this season,” said Mr. Prescott. “I would also like to acknowledge the two teams that reached the finals for all their efforts, the Gore Bay Merchants, and the 2016 league champions, the Mindemoya Brewers.”

The Mindemoya Brewers roster includes Mike Abotossaway, Ben Cranston, Al Lanktree, Chris King, Ryan Prior, Darryl Van Horn, Barry Barnes, Justin Lanktree, Corey Karn, Zach Corrigan, Tyler King, Stew Pearson, Nick Head Peterson, Jeff Delange, Greg Doane, Dustin Campbell, Cole King,  Lucus Mackan and Logan Bayer.
