M’CHIGEENG—The Manitoulin Secondary School (MSS) Mustangs girls curling team reached the consolation finals at the Northern Ontario Secondary School Association (NOSSA) championships.

Dawn Dawson, coach of the Mustangs Rink explained last Thursday, “the girls won two and lost two so ended up in the consolation final against Widdifield of North Bay.” MSS ended up losing 7-5 in eight ends.

The Mustangs Rink includes skip Rebecca Dawson, vice Morgan Hall, second Emily Tardif and lead Jary White.

“The girls were very well matched and played a great game,” said Ms. Dawson. “The NSSSA (North Shore) champions, Blind River ended up winning the whole thing and are on their way to OFSSA in North Bay.”

“NOSSA was hosted by Sault Community Curling Club which is the home of Brad Jacobs and his team,” said Ms. Dawson, and she took a picture of the Mustangs team with him. “Brad and his team were on the ice practicing for the Brier while the girls played their third game on Tuesday. He has his favourite sheet of ice with his own special competition rocks. The whole event was a wonderful experience for the girls. With this being Rebecca’s last high school competition it was a great way to finish up.”
