Nicholas “Nick” Tarasiuk passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 20, 2015 at the age of 90 at the Manitoulin Centennial Manor, Little Current. Nick immigrated to Canada from the small Ukrainian village of Samari-Kobryn at the age of seven and was predeceased by his father Ustin, mother Fedosia, sister Christine (Bowes) and brother Boris. He grew up in Toronto and the Holland Marsh area before first moving to Little Current in 1957 where his sister Christine then lived. He was a long time employee of Algoma Ore Properties, working in mineral exploration out of Sault Ste. Marie, before moving back to Little Current to look after Christine’s children following her death in 1972. He was a proud and devoted uncle of Brian (Sandra), Greg (Debbi) and Aaron (Anne) Bowes and Anita (Jamie) Willick (Bowes) and great-uncle to their 13 children. Nick was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing and could spend all day picking blueberries. He was a member of Grace Bible Chapel, Little Current Legion Branch 177, Little Current Fish and Game Club, the Curling Club and the Bedford Island hunt camp who fondly remember being entertained by “Nick at night”. The family would like to thank the Manitoulin Centennial Manor and its staff for enabling Nick to live his final years with dignity in a very positive and supportive environment. A service will be held at the Grace Bible Chapel, Saturday, January 31, 2015 at 11 am, reception to follow. Memorial donations may be made to the Manitoulin Centennial Manor Auxiliary or the Grace Bible Chapel as expressions of sympathy. Spring interment at Mountain View Cemetery.
