Providence Bay News & Notes

The beach cleanup that was sponsored Saturday, May 13 by the Community Centre Board was a great success. There were over 40 community volunteers that showed up with rakes and enthusiasm that cleaned up debris. A big thank you goes out to everyone who helped.

Happy Birthday wishes go out to Dennis McFarlane and to Mona Bryan as well, who both celebrated on May 14. Mona was here visiting to attend Jason and Leah McAllister’s stag and doe that was held in Mindemoya.

The Manitoulin Island Dirt Riders Association opened the motocross track on Sunday. They usually have the track open for practice on Tuesday evenings and Sunday afternoons, weather permitting. You must be a registered member to use the track.

Mother’s Day was warm but windy. It’s sure taking its time to warm up but all signs of spring keep coming. There are still plenty of fishermen out getting rainbow trout in the Mindemoya River. Everything looks so vibrant and green with marsh marigolds and trilliums all in bloom.

The Victoria Day Long Weekend is coming up already. It’s the first official long weekend of the summer season. Seasonal visitors will be opening camps and getting their spring clean up done. The dump will now be open both Saturday and Sunday every weekend from 2-6 pm.

There will be many visitors here enjoying themselves. The Providence Bay/Spring Bay Lions Club Spring Roar dance will be held on Saturday, May 20 from 8 pm to 2 am at the Providence Bay Centennial Hall. The lunch will be pulled pork sandwiches with barbecue beans and coleslaw.

The family of Lisa and Gerry Langridge are asking people to save the date for the interment of their ashes in the Providence Bay cemetery on Saturday, June 3 at 12:30 pm. There will be a light lunch and refreshments along with a sharing of memories at the curling club following the service.
