RAINBOW DISTRICT—Rainbow schools have once again joined forces to fight hunger and feed hope this holiday season by participating in the Edgar Burton Food Drive.
From festive concerts and community canvasses to spirit days and sports events, staff and students took every opportunity to collect donations in support of this important community campaign.
All donations will support food banks in jurisdictions served by the board, benefiting students and families in Sudbury, Espanola and Manitoulin Island.
In total, Rainbow schools collected 35,152 food items and $64,294 in monetary donations for area food banks, which translates to 420,916 food items for families in need.
At the food drive kick-off assembly, MacLeod Public School proudly accepted the Olympic torch for collecting the most donations last year, marking the eighth year that MacLeod has carried the torch. This year, MacLeod Public School contributed an astounding $16,379 in financial donations and 276 food items.
