Seventeen-year-old wrestler Lucas Laquerre, who has strong Manitoulin Island roots, has joined Team Ontario to compete in Slovakia and is fundraising for the trip.

SUDBURY—A young wrestler who has strong family ties to Manitoulin Island will be joining Team Ontario at an International Tournament of Olympic Hopes competition in November.
“I have loved the sport of wrestling since I first started in it—it is my sport,” stated 17-year-old Lucas Laquerre, who grew up in Whitefish, lived in Gore Bay for a few years and now lives in Sudbury. His mother, Crystal Lane, is a Manitoulin Island resident.
“I started wresting four years ago in high school and joined the Sudbury Golden Eagles Wrestling Club three years ago, when I really got involved in wrestling,” Lucas told The Expositor last week.
