Tehkummah Talk & Times

Just back from Mindemoya where as usual my timing is good. So, got to have a delicious macaroni dish with Joan and Borden and a little visit, did do my laundry first though. Angie mailed out my letters earlier today and took my column to be faxed. Angie’s Jason had an accident last week and wondered about him, as a shell exploded as he ejected it and injured his hand. I assume he was lucky it wasn’t worse!

Well, here I am, Tuesday evening in my famous chair, feet up. Cleo the drooling cat singing to me. Not home too long from Sudbury, as usual my faithful taxi driver, Sherry, saw my cardiologist today and here we go again. Already on Monday I am to have an angiogram and it sounds like possible heart surgery. We had our lunch at Swiss Chalet, a nice little waitress named Maxine. We moved to her section from Charlene’s, who was here two months from Australia.

Pauline and Wayne were in Espanola on Tuesday and brought Chinese food back for supper. Susan and Simon joined them for supper and Pat and John Novak, and you know how I hate to miss a meal. But, as I was on my own away with Sherry, darn it. Apparently, they had a fun Tiki game after the good food.

As always, a nice group at coffee time at the library. Mary hung around to be hassled!

Cribbage! Four tables today, Brad and Judi were back after soaking up the sun in Belize, swimming, jungle hiking etc. They looked good! We had four high hands, Marg Case, Judi, Bobbie Jo and myself, 21; first, Doris and Marg Case, 927; second, Patrysha and Laura, 925; third, tied, Gib and Florence, Cal and I, 924; low, Yogi and Bobbi Joe, 863; door, Florence, Patrysha, Doris; happy birthday song for Cal and Laura.

Isn’t the old hospital in Sudbury flamboyantly eye catching, beautiful, the artistry and all those lovely butterflies, wow!

A nice turnout for bid euchre today. First, John Novak, 234; second, Hank Reckman, 215; third, Pat Novak, 208; low, Simon, 82; 50/50, Pat Novak; moons, Laura Scott (two), Simon, Hank and Donna. Next Thursday dinner will be served after. It starts at 1 pm.

Hey, Autumn, keep up the good work!

Paws for Thought by neighbour Janice Mitchell was timely and seasonally informative and humorous, and I noted Jim Chrysler’s new hobby.

A young lady at checkout ahead of me in Sudbury had a service dog with her; he helps her handle depression. Isn’t it amazing the number of dogs that are helpful to their owner/companions?

The commercial of the week is “the old lady who knitted herself a bikini top.” Some things are just plain funny!

I just got the nicest phone call from my grandson Kris Hall in Alberta. It was quite a surprise.

Cal called right after and tuned me in to the good old country music on channel 74, the good stuff.

The Christmas Tree lighting is between the community hall and the municipal building on December 13.

When I was a kid in BC, I lived on First Avenue. Definitely not like Second Avenue, who are from Espanola and put out some great music at the Hall on Saturday evening! Good voices, good sing-a-long stuff for some of us, and dancers were few. Thanks!

Where does time go? While some memories seem like forever, others like yesterday? 20 some years, December 10, since my brother Peter passed away.

Peace, that’s our journey to seek it out, I think. I found I could totally tune in on early mornings. Watching the world wake gradually. This past year I missed it a lot. I was too tired, so I told myself.

After church at Fairview today I went to the Little Schoolhouse Museum for the carol sing, a nice lot of singers and some lovely prize draws. I won the cookies, just what I needed. They look delicious! Bobbi Jo won two draws, Jane Deyell, (gosh I thought I’d remember?); perhaps it will come to me before I have to drop this off today/Sunday. Sherry is picking me up shortly for the Sudbury event! Lori led the music with her guitar. A delicious buffet luncheon was served. Thanks, half of the lake bottom was on the tarmac at South Baymouth. The waves were unbelievable, spray beautiful.
